Gemini (AI) was recently rolled out for free to all Google Workspace users. This new feature aims to enhance productivity by providing AI-powered assistance in your Gmail inbox. However, if you find it intrusive or simply prefer to manage your emails without AI intervention, you can disable it. Here’s how you can turn off Gemini in Gmail for Google Workspace.
Steps to Disable Gemini and Smart Features in Gmail
Open Gmail
Navigate to https://gmail.com/ and login with your Google Workspace account.
Open Settings
Click the Settings gear icon in the top right corner and select See all settings.
Manage Workspace smart feature settings
Under the General tab, scroll down to the Google Workspace smart features section. Then, click Manage Workspace smart feature settings.
Turn off Smart features
– Turn off the Smart features in Google Workspace toggle. – Turn off the Smart features in other Google products toggle (Optional).
Save
Click SaveM refresh the browser, and compose a new email. The AI features should be now disabled.

Please note that the availability of these settings may vary depending on your Google Workspace subscription plan. Some administrators have reported that the option to disable Gemini is not directly accessible and may require contacting Google Support for assistance.
You can also disable Gemini at the admin level for all users in your organization. To do this, go to the Google Admin console and navigate to Apps > Google Workspace > Settings for Gmail > User settings. Then, uncheck the box next to Enable Gemini.
If you are using a personal Google account, you can disable Gemini by going to the Gemini website and clicking the Settings gear icon. Then, turn off the Enable Gemini in Gmail toggle.
